Mother-Child Certificate

Introduced in 1974 the Mother-Child Certificate hasn’t lost its importance since then and is still the most important health document until the age of five. The Mother-Child Certificate examinations are free of charge for patients subject to presentation of the e-card or corresponding documents of the social security insurance institution (“Ersatzbelegschein der Sozialversicherung”).

The medical examination of the child’s motor skill and cognitive development status is a crucial part of the check-up. Regular identification of body length, body weight and head circumference are important parameters when assessing the child’s development. It is recommended to continue with those well-child check-ups beyond the age of five, i.e. with the “Jugendcheck” (young people’s checks) of the “SVA der Gewerblichen Wirtschaft” (Social security insurance fund for trade and industry).
